Notably, the interest rate per month works out to around 0.688% per month, according to a report by Clear Tax.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of this, we take a look at how to calculate your monthly <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/india\/epfo-targets-15-july-to-credit-1-44-trillion-fy26-pf-interest-under-new-it-platform-11783498828203.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"EPF earnings\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">EPF earnings<\/a> at the 8.25% p.a. and also provide a stepwise guide for you to check your closing balance online via the e-passbook facility on the EPFO website.<\/p>\n<p>EPF interest: How is the interest earned calculated?<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epfo-starts-crediting-interest-for-fy26-when-will-your-pf-balance-be-updated-heres-how-to-check-11783508789118.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"EPF interest rate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">EPF interest rate<\/a> is applicable for all contributions made during a financial year (FY26 in this instance) and is calculated monthly based on the closing balance for that month. Notably, interest earned on EPF contributions is usually tax-exempt \u2014 up to  \u20b91.5 lakh under Section 80C of the old tax regime.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you choose to contribute towards voluntary provident fund (<a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epfo-subscriber-taxation-rule-vpf-voluntary-provident-fund-rs-2-5-lakh-threshold-explained-income-interest-earned-money-11783425918810.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"VPF\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">VPF<\/a>), and if your total annual contribution (Employee&#8217;s 12% + VPF) exceeds  \u20b92.5 lakh, interest earned on the excess amount (above  \u20b92.5 lakh threshold) is subject to income-tax at your slab rate.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Clear Tax report, your employer&#8217;s 12% contribution towards provident fund is divided 3.67% towards EPF and 8.33% towards EPS (pension), the latter of which does not provide interest. Thus, for a month, EPF interest can only be calculated on a portion of the contribution, as follows:<\/p>\n<p>For basic salary and <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/dearness-allowance-could-govt-employees-get-3-4-pc-da-hike-announcement-this-month-july-what-inflation-numbers-indicate-11783079805809.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"DA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DA <\/a>of  \u20b950,000 per month:<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to check EPF interest credit, passbook<\/p>\n<p>To check your EPF interest credit details, log into the official EPFO portal and navigate to your EPF <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epfo-check-account-status-savings-passbook-official-portal-umang-app-services-available-week-date-1-july-software-update-11782626369444.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"passbook\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">passbook<\/a>. Once interest if deposited, the last credit will show as \u2018interest updated up to 15\/07\/2026\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the EPFO India website and login.In the top navigation bar, click the \u201cView\u201d tab.From the dropdown, select \u201cPassbook\u201c.Log in to the passbook portal using your <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epfo-discontinues-uan-activation-on-portal-what-pf-subscribers-should-know-11783134530857.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"UAN\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">UAN <\/a>and the same password.Your Member IDs appear as a list (of different companies). Click \u201cView Passbook\u201d next to the relevant Member ID to view the full transaction history.To save a copy, click the \u201cDownload PDF\u201d button at the top right of the passbook page.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, members also have the facility to view and download their PF passbook via the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epfo-how-subscribers-can-use-umang-app-sms-whatsapp-missed-call-option-employees-provident-fund-passbook-balance-updates-11782119952078.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Umang\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Umang <\/a>app.<\/p>\n<p>EPF interest payment to be credited by 15 July \u2014 Details<\/p>\n<p>Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on 8 July said the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epfo-top-reasons-your-employees-provident-fund-settlement-claims-rejected-explained-epf-scheme-document-errors-mismatch-11783073513956.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"EPFO\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">EPFO <\/a>is processing interest payment on provident funds of 34 crore members for FY26. You can check your balance for the same by next week, on 15 July (Wednesday).
