{"id":683756,"date":"2026-07-10T06:20:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T06:20:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/683756\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T06:20:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T06:20:13","slug":"conwy-skip-hire-firm-fined-for-failing-to-provide-soap-and-water-and-asbestos-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/683756\/","title":{"rendered":"Conwy skip hire firm fined for failing to provide soap and water and asbestos training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A skip hire and recycling company has been fined \u00a336,000 for repeatedly failing to provide appropriate welfare facilities and asbestos awareness training for employees at a site in North Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailypost.co.uk\/all-about\/llandudno\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Llandudno<\/a> Magistrates\u2019 Court heard how workers at World Care (Wales) Limited in <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailypost.co.uk\/all-about\/llandudno-junction\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Llandudno Junction<\/a> were tasked with sorting waste and recyclable materials by hand without having facilities to wash and dry themselves afterwards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">At the World Care site, it was identified through a routine inspection that the company had failed to make warm running water and soap available to employees as well as a means to dry themselves. There had been at least one occasion where asbestos had been brought onto the site, yet they continued to not provide asbestos awareness training to employees. <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailypost.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=da31e0f9-0bf2-4091-bc59-f8c65b1f2341&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter<\/a> sent twice daily to your inbox<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that World Care (Wales) had received previous enforcement on several occasions over an 11\u2013year period. On each occasion, inspectors found that the company failed to maintain the minimum health and safety standards required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">These enforcement notices were in relation to welfare provisions and training.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">HSE Inspector James Benton said: \u201cThe health risks from exposure to material containing asbestos is well known yet this company wasn\u2019t providing the appropriate facilities for workers to protect themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cBasic welfare provision is essential to ensure that employees can clean themselves at work, to help prevent exposure to harmful microorganisms. After being told of the risks, this company repeatedly failed to provide adequate welfare facilities such as soap and running water, and failed to provide asbestos awareness training to employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">World Care (Wales) Limited of Tre Marl Industrial Estate, Llandudno Junction, pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. The company was fined \u00a336,000 and \u00a38,867 in costs at Llandudno Magistrates\u2019 Court on 6 July 2026. The company opted to make the payments over a 16-month period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This HSE prosecution was brought by HSE enforcement lawyer Alan Hughes and paralegal officer Lynne Thomas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">World Care (Wales) said: &#8220;The fine recently imposed on Worldcare Wales dates to non-compliances prior to 2023.
