{"id":684046,"date":"2026-07-10T10:38:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T10:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/684046\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T10:38:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T10:38:11","slug":"police-found-man-shadow-boxing-outside-accrington-mcdonalds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/684046\/","title":{"rendered":"Police found man shadow boxing outside Accrington McDonald&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk\/news\/blackburn\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Blackburn<\/a> Magistrates&#8217; Court heard that when Steven Scanlan was told he was going to be searched, he volunteered that he had a knife in his bag.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Scanlan, 32, of Spring Bank Terrace, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to possessing a kitchen knife in a public place.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay \u00a385 costs and \u00a3154 victim surcharge.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Glenn Anderton, prosecuting, said officers attended the Accrington McDonald&#8217;s in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk\/news\/hyndburn\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hyndburn<\/a> Road at 4.15am on April 7.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;The defendant was behaving erratically,&#8221; said Mr Anderton.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;He was dancing and shadow boxing in front of the police vehicle.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Gareth Price, mitigating, said his client had been living in a house of multiple occupation in Accrington and had been attacked on five separate occasions.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;His mental health deteriorated as a result, and he ended up taking this knife out for defence purposes,&#8221; said Mr Price.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;He was admitted to Royal Blackburn Hospital mental health unit nine days after this incident, and he remains there as a voluntary patient.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Blackburn Magistrates&#8217; Court heard that when Steven Scanlan was told he was going to be searched, he volunteered&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":684047,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[41],"tags":[2560,101,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-684046","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-boxing","tag-boxing","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/684046","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=684046"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/684046\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/684047"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=684046"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=684046"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=684046"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
