Man Utd legends Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt are not convinced that Andrey Santos is the right midfielder for the Red Devils to buy this summer.<\/p>\n
Santos is expected to sign for Man Utd<\/a> on Friday with Fabrizio Romano revealing on Thursday that the Brazilian had completed a medical ahead of a move to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n His compatriot, Ederson, is also closing in on a move from Serie A side Atalanta, although there have been doubts about him passing his second medical at Man Utd.<\/p>\n Man Utd are looking to sign at least two, maybe three midfielders, this summer and have decided not to pay over the odds for players like Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali this summer.<\/p>\n Writing on X, Romano explained<\/a>: \u2018Andrey Santos has just completed a successful medical as new Manchester United player.<\/p>\n \u2018Clubs signed all documents for \u00a350m package deal. Andrey signs tomorrow, Friday on deal until June 2031 plus option at #MUFC.\u2019<\/p>\n READ: Man Utd could move to sign Liverpool star ahead of Tottenham on one condition<\/a><\/p>\n However, not everyone is happy with the news, with former Man Utd midfielder Butt insisting that \u201cnothing stands out\u201d from Santos in terms of attributes.<\/p>\n Butt said in an interview with Paddy Power: \u201cIf he\u2019s brought in at \u00a325-30 million you could understand it, Man United need to build a squad. I\u2019ve said that a few times.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not just about the lads on the pitch, you\u2019ve got to have better players on the bench. But he\u2019s not being signed for \u00a350m to just be sat on the bench, he has to be a starter.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve seen him play a few times but nothing stands out that makes you go, \u2018Wow, he\u2019s got great ability on the ball or he\u2019s a powerhouse\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s come totally out of the blue. It\u2019s a strange one, it\u2019s not one I\u2019m jumping around going, \u2018What a signing, I\u2019m really happy with it\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cWe need players in midfield that make us a lot better. I really don\u2019t like having a go at young players or new signings before they go and prove themselves, but it\u2019s one where they\u2019re buying potential over someone that\u2019s done it.<\/p>\n \u201cHe could come and blow us away and everyone\u2019s saying, \u2018What a signing, he could be the best signing of the last five-ten years at Man United\u2019. But then again he could just end up being another Manuel Ugarte that doesn\u2019t perform at the top level.<\/p>\n \u201cIf United shock us all and go out and buy another midfielder for \u00a3100million and he\u2019s just one more they\u2019re going to give a bit of time to, then I get it.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause we should always buy younger players who have the potential to kick on for the future. But if he\u2019s getting thrown straight in the deep end and he\u2019s got to produce at the highest level\u2026 United haven\u2019t got time to let people settle in for a year or two, they have to hit the ground running.\u201d<\/p>\n Scholes: It\u2019s going to be awful without these players.<\/p>\n
