As for the break, they’re lead has been cut to a mere matter of 6 or 7 seconds. They\u2019ve knocked off the pace again upon realising how close they were getting, and have bunched up at the front again, allowing the lead to grow again. This chase and the parcours is turning out to be almost too easy for them; yet they won’t want to catch the break too early, as it\u2019ll risk opening the race up to fresh new attacks for them to have to control.<\/p>\n 2026-07-10T13:08:12.451Z After that flurry of attacks instigated by Uno-X Mobility, the pair of Alpecin-Premier Tech and Soudal-QuickStep have reclaimed control of the peloton, and the race has calmed down. In Tim Merlier they have the other hot favourite for the stage win, and the Belgian is looking for a fifth stage win in what is just his third appearance at the Tour de France, and may also be wishing to solidify his status as his team\u2019s top sprinter after Paul Magnier\u2019s superb Giro<\/p>\n If he\u2019s beaten in too many sprints at this year\u2019s race, he\u2019s in danger of being replaced by his younger (and more French) colleague next year.<\/p>\n \n (Image credit: Getty Images) 2026-07-10T12:56:33.949Z The race has woken up all of a sudden! A new attack was instigated from the peloton, after a number of Uno-X Mobility riders including Jonas Abrahamsen, plus about seven other riders, tried to attack out of it. They\u2019ve been brought back, but as a result the lead of Veistroffer and Otruba has come down to about 50 seconds.<\/p>\n 2026-07-10T12:49:20.523Z<\/p>\n Jonas Vingegaard was not happy at how yesterday went, and to lose so much time so early on. Though the pace has been slow so far, and looks set to continue that way for most of the stage, this weather will still take its toll on the riders. The whole bunch spread across the road and slowed down the moment they went away, and nobody tried to respond to join them. After just one mountain stage, his attack on the Tourmalet was already enough to see him move 2:42 ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, with no other rivals within 3:30 of his time.
