Throughout his career, Paul Feig has both figuratively and literally proven himself to be a man of many different filmmaking hats. From Bridesmaids<\/a> to Spy<\/a>, Ghostbusters<\/a> to A Simple Favour<\/a> (and Another Simple Favour<\/a>), and from Last Christmas<\/a> to The Housemaid<\/a>, Feig has dabbled in many genres over the last couple of decades. But now the Freaks & Geeks creator has decided it’s high time to try something new \u2014 and something dark. Per Deadline<\/a>‘s reporting, Paul Feig is set to make his horror directorial debut with Detention, a new chiller from Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Platinum Dunes.<\/p>\n

According to Deadline, Feig has been chomping at the bit to draw further from the dark well opened up by The Housemaid and stray into proper horror territory with his next project. And while plot details regarding Detention are being kept firmly under wraps for now, this movie \u2014 rocking a Daniel Gold spec script and a whole raft of producers, including Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller, Cameron Fuller, and Laura Fischer \u2014 sounds as if it’s about to give Feig exactly the horror-thriller he has been looking for.<\/p>\n

There’s no studio attached to this one just yet \u2014 though Universal is a likely candidate given its extant ties with both Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Platinum Dunes. We also don’t know who’ll be starring in the film or when we may expect it to hit our screens. What we do know however is that Paul Feig is a stylish filmmaker who isn’t afraid to upset expectations and do his own thing, and that \u2014 crucially \u2014 he ain’t afraid of no ghosts. Here’s hoping Detention is another Feig class act.
