{"id":686320,"date":"2026-07-11T17:15:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T17:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/686320\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T17:15:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T17:15:08","slug":"river-stour-and-the-blean-conservation-work-to-get-1m-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/686320\/","title":{"rendered":"River Stour and the Blean conservation work to get \u00a31m boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Beavers, endangered butterflies and birds will be among the species to benefit from a \u00a31.28m government grant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The money has been awarded to the Kent Wildlife Trust, through Natural England&#8217;s Species Recovery Programme, backed by The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It will be spent on projects on the River Stour, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cpdd17ljmvyo\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">with Kent the home to England&#8217;s largest population of wild beavers<\/a>, and ancient woodland at the Blean, near Canterbury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Trust said the award shows the county&#8217;s importance in conserving endanged wildlife.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Paul Hadaway, director of conservation and engagement, said: &#8220;It gives us the opportunity to strengthen our nationally important beaver population, deepen our understanding of some of England&#8217;s least known woodland invertebrates, and create the conditions for them to recover and thrive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The knowledge we gain here in Kent won&#8217;t just benefit local wildlife &#8211; it will help shape species recovery across England.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Beavers, endangered butterflies and birds will be among the species to benefit from a \u00a31.28m government grant.
