{"id":686954,"date":"2026-07-12T02:23:30","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T02:23:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/686954\/"},"modified":"2026-07-12T02:23:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T02:23:30","slug":"teesside-sewage-leak-sea-swimming-ban-lifted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/686954\/","title":{"rendered":"Teesside Sewage leak sea swimming ban lifted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Advice to avoid swimming in the sea after a sewage pipe burst has been lifted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Untreated sewage leaked into the River Tees when the Cargo Fleet main, near Dockside Road in Middlesbrough, burst on the evening of 26 June, affecting beaches in Hartlepool, Redcar, Saltburn and Marske.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Environment Agency (EA) lifted its advice against swimming on Wednesday and said an investigation was continuing into the leak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Northumbrian Water, which previously said it believed the damage was caused &#8220;by a third party&#8221;, confirmed the main pipe had been repaired and was back in service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Labour MP for Redcar Anna Turley said the the lifting of the bathing ban was &#8220;very welcome news&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;However, there are still serious questions that need answering.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Advice to avoid swimming in the sea after a sewage pipe burst has been lifted.
