Gervonta \u201cTank\u201d Davis has dangled fights against Devin Haney, Isaac \u201cPitbull\u201d Cruz and Shakur Stevenson this year, but the news that he\u2019s expected to be out of the ring all year raises the question if his talk is cheap.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday\u2019s episode of ProBoxTV\u2019s BoxingScene Today, analyst and trainer Robert Garcia said Davis also targeted his fellow unbeaten three-division champion Jesse \u201cBam\u201d Rodriguez while calling out foes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s all this talk about? One person he called out \u2013 he didn\u2019t put it on social media, but we have the messages \u2013 he called out \u2018Bam,\u2019\u201d Garcia told co-hosts Chris Algieri and Paulie Malignaggi.<\/p>\n
Davis, 30-0-1 (28 KOs), hasn\u2019t fought since his disputed March 2025 draw versus former junior lightweight champion Lamont Roach Jnr at Barclays Center in New York.<\/p>\n
The 31-year-old has been beset by legal problems this year as he confronts both a criminal and civil case for his alleged domestic violence of his former partner in Florida.<\/p>\n
This week, The Ring Magazine reported Davis is sidelined through early 2027 after the other negotiations collapsed.<\/p>\n
In a Wednesday night interview with BoxingScene, Garcia said he believes Davis was provoked while watching a video report by Elie Seckbach inside Garcia\u2019s gym in Moreno Valley, California, as Rodriguez, 24-0 (17 KOs), was training for his June 13 bantamweight-title victory over Antonio Vargas.<\/p>\n
As Seckbach asked Garcia if Davis was a top pound-for-pound fighter, Garcia said no, contending Davis is too selective in his choice of opponents, unlike Rodriguez, and that he \u201chadn\u2019t earned it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Davis watches Seckbach\u2019s videos regularly, the reporter told Garcia.<\/p>\n
Rodriguez then received a direct message from Davis on social media saying, \u201cI want to fight you. I\u2019m going to call [Premier Boxing Champions head] Al [Haymon] to make that fight happen.\u201d<\/p>\n
Said Garcia: \u201cI don\u2019t even know if [Davis] was thinking of the weight difference from 118lbs [bantamweight] to 135 [lightweight], but \u2018Bam\u2019 didn\u2019t hesitate. He messaged back, \u2018All right, let\u2019s do it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Algieri and Malignaggi laughed at the proposition due to the size disadvantage.<\/p>\n
