The Pitt has become the award-winning breakout TV hit of the moment<\/a>, but the show is making a tweak to its winning formula in the next season.<\/p>\n

Noah Wyle, who plays lead character Dr Michael \u201cRobby\u201d Robinavitch, is currently co-writing and starring in season three of the medical drama, set in a busy Pittsburgh emergency room.<\/p>\n

However, he said that, while the first two seasons were set in the present day, raising awareness of topical subjects ranging from vaccine conspiracy theories, gun ownership and the influx of AI, season three will move the needle back slightly.<\/p>\n

The new season, which will premiere in January 2027, will be set two months before, on 12 November 2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cUp until now, we’ve plotted our show almost in real time when people are watching,\u201d Wyle told Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n

‘We’ve written the shows eight months before we air, but we’ve written them to take place in the time and place in which they are being watched. We didn’t do that this season.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that, for the first time, the show will reference events that have already happened, \u201cand not where we\u2019re going\u201d.<\/p>\n

Wyle said this decision stemmed from the \u201canticipation and fear and preparation going into January and the executive of the Big Beautiful Bill that will have a lot of ramifications in Americans’ lives\u201d.<\/p>\n

The bill \u2013\u00a0signed by US President Donald Trump \u2013 is designed to slash taxes and will lead to cuts in funding within the healthcare arena, as well as in the food assistance and energy sectors. <\/p>\n

As a result, the new season of The Pitt will focus on \u201cwhat most people are going to have to do to prepare themselves for a very harsh reality in the next seven to eight years, to underscore the point of how desperate this particular moment in time is\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Pitt is the most nominated show at this year\u2019s Emmys<\/a>, which take place in September. It received 25 nods in total, including for Wyle and his co-stars Katherine LaNasa, Sepideh Moafi, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Gerran Howell, Patrick Ball and Shawn Hatosy.<\/p>\n

Another change in season three will be the departure of Supriya Ganesh, whose senior resident Dr Samira Mohan controversially won\u2019t be a part of the action. <\/a>There will also be a location switch up<\/a> for Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez), who\u2019ll move from the ER to a psychiatry rotation.<\/p>\n

Speaking about his future on The Pitt, Wyle told The Independent: \u201cI\u2019m committed, not only contractually, but also emotionally, to exploring this for several more seasons. I have felt that we\u2019re doing a hospital show that has embedded into it a very specific mental health journey of one individual, and we\u2019re not even to the halfway point of that journey.
