11-under 60 on Saturday<\/a> to lead by three shots overnight at 18 under, Ryu signed for a 71 on Sunday, with her solitary birdie arriving on the 18th in the east of France.<\/p>\nRyu was forced to watch as Canada’s Henderson, who began the day seven strokes adrift, charged back into contention and forced a play-off with her third eagle of the day on the final hole to sign for a seven-under 64. <\/p>\n
However, when the 2022 winner Henderson drifted left off the tee on the extra hole and was forced to lay up, Ryu took full advantage and eventually made a birdie, with her opponent only managing a par. <\/p>\n
“This is just a dream right now, because before three weeks [ago] I don’t have a major championship, but now two in a row,” said Ryu, who also triumphed at the Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine in June.<\/p>\n
“It’s an unreal dream right now. A lot of great names [are] on the trophy, and I so happy that my name is on here.”<\/p>\n
Ryu’s victory means she collects the top prize of $1.4m (\u00a31m) and becomes one of just two players to have hoovered up all four of the women’s majors so far this term. <\/p>\n
World number one Nelly Korda, who missed the cut at Evian-les-Bains, won both the Chevron Championship and the US Women’s Open earlier in the season. <\/p>\n
Ryu’s recent success is all the more remarkable given she missed the cut in this event 12 months ago, and was a lowly 61st at PGA Frisco in 2025.<\/p>\n
At one stage on Sunday it appeared as though Aki Iwai was capable of becoming a first-time major winner. <\/p>\n
The Japanese player had a share of the lead alongside Ryu heading down the 18th, but a missed birdie putt meant she ended the tournament in third at 18 under overall.<\/p>\n
Compatriots Miyu Yamashita and Mao Saigo finished three shots further adrift at 15 under alongside South Korea’s Jin-Hee Im.<\/p>\n
