{"id":688093,"date":"2026-07-12T19:24:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T19:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/688093\/"},"modified":"2026-07-12T19:24:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T19:24:08","slug":"argentina-british-falkland-islanders-are-artificial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/688093\/","title":{"rendered":"Argentina: British Falkland Islanders are \u2018artificial\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Quirno argued that for Britain, the Falklands Islands were not an \u201cexpression of its identity\u201d given the size of its population compared to the roughly 1,200 British troops deployed there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ratio demonstrates the tactical nature of the occupation,\u201d he wrote, describing the archipelago as a \u201cstrategic enclave from which it safeguards military, economic, and geopolitical interests in one of the most important regions of the Southern Hemisphere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also denounced the Britain-backed <a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2026\/06\/04\/argentina-threatens-british-oil-prospector-in-the-falklands\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">plans to develop a Falklands offshore oil field<\/a>, which Argentina has declared unlawful.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Qurino said it was \u201cbased on fraudulent licenses issued by illegitimate authorities\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The foreign minister said it was his duty to make the case for the Falklands returning to Argentine rule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery day I renew that mandate, aware that few responsibilities can honour a foreign minister more than to carry the voice of this just cause to the world and defend it with the same firmness with which millions of my compatriots embrace it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherein lies one of the greatest honours and commitments an Argentinian can assume. That is my commitment.
