An eco-friendly development of 34 new homes has been crowned the best new development in York at the 18th annual York Design Awards.<\/p>\n

Duncombe Square, designed by Stirling Prize winning architect, Mikhail Riches, on behalf of City of York Council, has scooped the prestigious Lord Mayor\u2019s Award.<\/p>\n

A new medieval-inspired hotel at 105 Micklegate won the YorkMix People\u2019s Choice Award<\/a>, which was designed by York-based Brown and Company, and voted for by members of the public.<\/p>\n

Other winners on the night included Rialto House on Fishergate, the National Railway Museum\u2019s Central Hall and Askham Bryan College\u2019s teaching block.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Young People\u2019s Choice Awards, voted by people under 18, was awarded to a bold extension to residential property on Marygate, designed by ArkleBoyce architects.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 18 York Design Awards showcased the city\u2019s architectural excellence, celebrating projects that exemplify innovation, sustainability, and respect for York\u2019s rich heritage.<\/p>\n

Ann Reid, Chair of the York Design Awards, said: \u201cDuncombe Square was a worthy winner of the prestigious Lord Mayor\u2019s Award and is a fantastic addition to the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough collaboration and a commitment to design quality, the scheme creates a distinctive, low-carbon neighbourhood that inspires future housing in York.<\/p>\n

Duncombe Square, located on Burton Stone Lane, includes 23 terraced houses ranging in size from two to four bedrooms, along with 11 one-bed apartments.\u00a0 Twenty-one of the homes have been offered for social rent and for purchase through shared ownership schemes.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s winners included York Minster\u2019s Centre of Excellence for Heritage Skills, York Racecourse and the Cocoa Works.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sponsors for this year\u2019s awards include O\u2019Neill Associates, York Civic Trust, Simpson & Brown, York Conservation Trust, YorHUB and York Architectural Association.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
