{"id":688514,"date":"2026-07-13T01:41:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T01:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/688514\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T01:41:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T01:41:16","slug":"the-best-new-building-in-york-is-revealed-yorkmix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/688514\/","title":{"rendered":"The best new building in York is revealed | YorkMix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead wp-block-paragraph\">An eco-friendly development of 34 new homes has been crowned the best new development in York at the 18th annual York Design Awards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duncombe Square, designed by Stirling Prize winning architect, Mikhail Riches, on behalf of City of York Council, has scooped the prestigious Lord Mayor\u2019s Award.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new medieval-inspired hotel at 105 Micklegate won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorkmix.com\/here-are-yorks-best-new-buildings-but-which-is-your-favourite\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the YorkMix People\u2019s Choice Award<\/a>, which was designed by York-based Brown and Company, and voted for by members of the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other winners on the night included Rialto House on Fishergate, the National Railway Museum\u2019s Central Hall and Askham Bryan College\u2019s teaching block.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Young People\u2019s Choice Awards, voted by people under 18, was awarded to a bold extension to residential property on Marygate, designed by ArkleBoyce architects.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/york-design-awards-2026-duncombe-square-4.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-566072\"  \/>Overall winner: Duncombe Square.
