{"id":691066,"date":"2026-07-14T12:03:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T12:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/691066\/"},"modified":"2026-07-14T12:03:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T12:03:09","slug":"wildfires-burn-in-parts-of-uk-as-fire-chiefs-warn-of-extreme-pressure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/691066\/","title":{"rendered":"Wildfires burn in parts of UK as fire chiefs warn of extreme pressure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wildfires <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/weather\/articles\/cvge2zq0zg3o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">over the weekend<\/a> also affected Hampshire, Durham, West Sussex, East Sussex, Devon and Somerset.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In Wales, the major incident declared over the Conwy wildfire has now been brought under control, according to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service assistant chief fire officer Justin Evans. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But firefighters are still tackling several active blazes, including in Braichmelyn forestry near Bethesda and the Rhinogydd mountain range near Harlech.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Farmer Gareth Wyn Jones, whose land borders the Conwy Mountain, said he had &#8220;never seen anything of that scale&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It was unreal,&#8221; he said, adding that while ponies grazing on the mountain had escaped, he feared for a neighbour&#8217;s pigs as flames swept through surrounding land. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The biggest worry was that they were going to suffocate in the smoke, but the smoke did carry over them,&#8221; he said, confirming the animals had survived.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wildfires over the weekend also affected Hampshire, Durham, West Sussex, East Sussex, Devon and Somerset.
