Huddersfield Giants prop Tom Burgess has confirmed his season could well be over, with a hip injury potentially ending his year.<\/p>\n
Burgess, who is in the second year of a three-year deal, has been limited in appearances as of late, and that is not set to change any time soon.<\/p>\n
The former England international last played almost a month ago, in the away defeat to St Helens. He has now shared an update on his immediate future, and whether there is any rugby left for him in 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had a few little niggles this year,\u201d he said to The Bench podcast I\u2019ve been pushing through it, but I\u2019m off at the moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m looking at potentially getting an operation on my hip, which has sort of been chronic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s a decision I need to make, whether or not I can keep going, but also you want to be at a good level, and you want to be training every week.\u201d<\/p>\n
Whether Burgess gets the surgery will determine whether he plays again this season, but interestingly, his issue now is the same type of hip problem that his brother George had in his playing career.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re identical twin brothers, so we\u2019ve got the same hip,\u201d he revealed. \u201cI\u2019m actually seeing the same surgeon that he saw, so that gives me a bit of confidence.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe said it changed his life, but I\u2019m not getting the same as what he would get. Basically, it\u2019s something that has got worse over the last year, and we\u2019ve seen that from scans.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s something I need to get sorted now, and going into my last year I\u2019ll give it a red hot crack.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 34-year-old is starting to come to the end of his career, and with one more year left on his current deal, he wants to have the best preparation going into what could well be the final year before hanging up the boots.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cI want to make sure that I\u2019m not cutting into pre-season as well. It\u2019s about a four-month recovery so we\u2019ll see. No decision has been locked in just yet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pretty close to getting it sorted. I played against Saints (21st June), and I\u2019ve been feeling alright, but other things start cropping up, so I think I am going to get it done soon and hopefully time it right.\u201d<\/p>\n
