{"id":691369,"date":"2026-07-14T15:47:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T15:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/691369\/"},"modified":"2026-07-14T15:47:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T15:47:10","slug":"farmer-to-face-no-action-over-2024-whaley-bridge-burglary-shooting-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/691369\/","title":{"rendered":"Farmer to face no action over 2024 Whaley Bridge burglary shooting death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A farmer arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder over the death of a 19-year-old who was shot during a burglary in Derbyshire has been released with no further action, police have said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Marcus Smith was pronounced dead at the scene in Eccles Road, Whaley Bridge, in the early hours of 1 May 2024, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the homeowner, in his 50s, discharged a legally held firearm when confronted with burglars in his home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Police passed a file of evidence to the CPS which, after review, decided no charges would be brought in relation to Smith&#8217;s death.
