Cast and crew have already filmed the scenes that see Nancy suffer a relapse.

This will coincide with the recent arrival of newcomer Abigail Matthews, who’s soon to be hired by Nancy at the local school. Could Nancy decide that she needs to lean on her new colleague for support?

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Jessica Fox – who plays Nancy – explained: “Nancy’s going to have a little bit of a health scare. We’re going to remind the audience that she has MS, and we’re going to touch on that a little bit.”

Nancy was diagnosed with the relapsing-remitting form of MS in early 2017, which has meant that she has suffered unpredictable flare-ups over the years, followed by periods of recovery.

In 2024, we saw Nancy’s symptoms return after her husband Darren had gone missing from the village, which led to her collapsing during a televised police appeal for information.

Meanwhile, Jessica also spoke about the exciting return of Cindy Cunningham – promising that the fun tensions between her and Nancy will be revisited.

“Cindy and Nancy’s always been a really fun pairing,” she told us. “Yet again, they’re going to bounce off each other in that chalk and cheese kind of way.

“I genuinely squealed when I saw that she was coming back – I think the show has had a huge Cindy-shaped hole. She’s such a unique character – she has come back better than ever, she’s sassier than ever, she’s sexier than ever and she’s got all these secrets as well…”

Hollyoaks shared a first look at Cindy’s reappearance in the show’s summer trailer yesterday, which confirmed that she’ll be going head to head with Beth Keane.

A show spokesperson teased: “Cindy’s back in even higher heels with sharper talons, and tongue – but what is it she has come back for?

“Some welcomes are better than others, as Nancy is suspicious and Beth fumbles over their history and the Keanes and Osbornes are caught up in events from the past. But out with the old, in with the new, in the shape of Cindy’s shiny new flatmate Abigail…”

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
