Here’s what Ipswich Star readers think the new species at Jimmy’s Farm near Ipswich will be.

1. Binturongs

The most popular suggestion was Binturongs because they smell like popcorn, and people believe the popcorn is a hint to what species it is.

These animals walk flat-footed like bears and people.

They can also rotate their hind legs so their claws have grip when climbing down a tree head first, while also using their gripping tail as a brake when running down trees.

The nearest zoo with this animal is Colchester Zoo.

2. Elephants

The second most popular suggestion is elephants.

Over the last century, elephant populations have had a significant decline.

The greatest threat to African elephants is poaching for the illegal ivory trade, whereas the greatest risk to Asian elephant populations is habitat loss.

The closest zoo near Suffolk with elephants is Colchester Zoo.

3. Moon Bears

The wildlife park is set to welcome moon bears, though they are not the newly announced species in this Facebook post, as their arrival is part of a long-running campaign.

The five moon bears are being rescued from South Korea’s bile farming industry and have now been officially cleared to travel to Suffolk.

This is after capturing widespread public support and raising tens of thousands of pounds so far.

The bears are expected to live at a specially prepared habitat at the park, where they will receive long-term care.

4. Red Pandas

Readers have also suggested the new species could be red pandas.

Tembo the African elephant at Colchester Zoo (Image: Sarah Lucy Brown)
