TULSA, Okla. \u2014 North Tulsa residents are getting more than just information; they\u2019re getting tools to help improve their financial future.<\/p>\n
One local organization brought experts directly to the community through free workshops designed around what neighbors said they need the most.<\/p>\n
Northside Neighbors made financial education one of the topics in its ongoing community learning series after people they serve said they want to learn more. Tuesday\u2019s topic was credit.<\/p>\n
A good credit score can make all the difference when it comes to achieving financial goals. That’s why Northside Neighbors invited residents to a free workshop focused on understanding, protecting, and improving their credit.<\/p>\n
\u201cJuly of last year, Northside Neighborslaunched a community learning series and the reason that we did that is because Hawthorne and Walt Whitman residents were telling us that we would,\u201d said Reggie Ivey, Executive Director of Northside Neighbors. \u201cWe need experts coming into our community giving us information that we really need and tonight we\u2019re hosting an event that focuses on improving your credit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Answers to questions like \u2018what is credit,\u2019 \u2018how do you build credit,\u2019 and everything in between were answered by wealth manager Christopher Elmore.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been doing this work for over 25 years inTulsa and he is doing this for us at no cost tonight,\u201d said Ivey. \u201cHe\u2019s going to be talking about how you can improve your credit score.\u201d<\/p>\n
The workshop gave neighbors tools to build their credit over time and even tips to take back home and put into practice.<\/p>\n
\u201cI also want the residents to understand that even though their credit scores may not be where they desire them to be right now, there is always an opportunity to increase [them],\u201d said Ivey.<\/p>\n
While this is a one day workshop, Ivey said continuing to provide the community with important information to help families is his passion.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo the goal of Northside Neighbors is to bring back the resources that residents need, such as businesses, restaurants and shopping centers. We also want to make sure that we bring more mixed income housing to this area,\u201d said Ivey. \u201cWe\u2019re doing work around improving health outcomes and ultimately, we want to make this a corridor that is desirable for the people that live here and the people that might come to this community looking for a place to bring their families.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ivey said they will continue to hold the bimonthly events because they have important information for families as well as help with generational success.<\/p>\n
