{"id":69242,"date":"2025-08-15T16:22:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T16:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/69242\/"},"modified":"2025-08-15T16:22:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T16:22:12","slug":"matthew-richardson-breaks-his-own-200m-world-record-24-hours-later","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/69242\/","title":{"rendered":"Matthew Richardson breaks his own 200m world record 24 hours later\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Britain&#8217;s Matthew Richardson has broken his own 200m flying start record 24 hours after setting it.<\/p>\n<p>As part of British Cycling\u2019s world record assault at the Konya Velodrome, Turkey, Richardson set a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/matthew-richardson-sets-new-200m-world-record\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new world record yesterday of 8.941 seconds<\/a> becoming the first athlete to go under 9 seconds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Convinced he had more in the tank, the track cyclist took another attempt today and set a new world record of 8.857 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Richardson said: \u201cI knew there was more time on the table after yesterday&#8217;s \u2018out of sprint lane\u2019 ride, so I knew if I came in with good execution and rode as close to the black as possible I\u2019d go quicker and that\u2019s what happened.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew there was more in the tank yesterday, so I was obviously really stoked about yesterday but I was hungry for more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the record is now \u201cout of my control\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/AW7_1470-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"Matthew Richardson racing at the Konya Velodrome, Turkey. \" class=\"wp-image-934718\"\/>Matthew Richardson racing at the Konya Velodrome, Turkey. SWpix.com <\/p>\n<p>Richardson briefly broke the 200m flying start record at last year\u2019s Paris Olympic Games before Dutchman Harrie Lavreyesen broke it minutes later with a time of 9.088 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>The Brit felt confident before his record attempts. He appeared to break Lavreyesen\u2019s record earlier this year at the Nations Cup at Konya Velodrome, but the UCI did not ratify the effort because Richardson drifted below the track\u2019s blue line.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Richardson used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/pro-bike\/matthew-richardsons-hope-hb-t-track-bike\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">custom Hope HB.T track bike<\/a> for his world records. He worked with British Cycling\u2019s lead project engineer Oliver Caddy to optimise the bike, which included a custom 3D-printed titanium handlebar and a fork produced by Hope.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Richardson was one of three British cyclists that travelled to Turkey to undertake world record attempts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday saw Will Bjergfelt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/britains-will-bjergfelt-sets-new-hour-record-and-becomes-first-para-cyclist-to-break-50km\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">set a new C5 Hour Record of 51.471km<\/a>. The 46-year-old beat Andrea Tarlao\u2019s 2014 world record by over 3km and became the first para-cyclist to break the 50km barrier.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after his Hour Record ride, Bjergfelt said: \u201c\u201c[I feel] amazing, this is something I\u2019ve worked for, for a long time. When we talked about world records at the start of the year it\u2019s something I was very passionate about right from the get-go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Charlie Tanfield also attempted a Hour Record attempt yesterday, but with a distance of 53.967km he fell short of Filippo Ganna\u2019s 2022 record of 56.791km.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Britain&#8217;s Matthew Richardson has broken his own 200m flying start record 24 hours after setting it.
