A new plan is in place for Floyd Mayweather to rematch Manny Pacquiao in January 2027.<\/p>\n

That’s according to CEO of Pacquiao’s MP Promotions Jas Mathur, who has revealed his team is waiting for ‘technicalities’ unrelated to the Filipino boxing great<\/a> to be resolved to progress with scheduling the bout.<\/p>\n

Mayweather<\/a> and Pacquiao had been scheduled to run back boxing’s biggest money fight in a professional rematch on September 19 at Sphere in Las Vegas, live on Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Their 2015 meeting generated a whopping 4.6million pay-per-view buys \u2014 the highest in boxing’s history<\/a> \u2014 and both men took home a combined reported purse of $300m.<\/p>\n

However, the agreed fight was postponed indefinitely last month due to a series of obstacles<\/a>, including a disagreement between camps over whether it would be contested professionally or as an exhibition.<\/p>\n

Mayweather was threatened over breach of contract for insisting the clash was an exhibition, while Pacquiao’s team had asserted it was a pro contest.<\/p>\n

‘Money’ was also dealing with other legal issues, having taken financial advances from his agreement with Pacquiao, when he had also signed to fight Mike Tyson<\/a> and Mike Zambidis.<\/p>\n

Mayweather vs Zambidis was then cancelled in late June<\/a> following a lawsuit from events company CSI<\/a>, which claimed the American was paid $4.65m to exclusively promote fights against Pacquiao and Tyson \u2014 not Zambidis.<\/p>\n

New date for Mayweather-Pacquiao 2<\/p>\n

With the Tyson clash now being planned to take place in the US this autumn<\/a>, new plans are also being drawn up for Mayweather’s rematch with Pacquiao.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, right now there are some technicalities that are unrelated to Manny and unrelated to us that are being resolved,\u201d Mathur explained during a news conference this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Once that’s all said and done, then we anticipate that this should take place sometime in early 2027.<\/p>\n

“January is the plan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pacquiao wants to stay active ahead of the rematch with Mayweather, having fought Mario Barrios to a draw<\/a> on his return to the ring last July after four years out.<\/p>\n

\u201cRyan Garcia? Possibility, yes. We’ve also brought that up,” Mathur added, speaking on who ‘PacMan’ could fight in the meantime.<\/p>\n

“Ryan has another fight [against Conor Benn<\/a>], so everything’s on the table.<\/p>\n

“It’s all on the table. Ryan will fight Manny, Manny will fight Ryan. Rolly [Romero] will fight Manny, Manny will fight Rolly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of these people are on the table. It’s not an issue, but we have to focus on what’s in front of us right now.<\/p>\n

“Like I said earlier, we want to break records.”<\/p>\n

Regardless of who Pacquiao lands on for a fight at the back end of 2026, Mathur has said it will likely be an exhibition.<\/p>\n
