\n A stag will be erected at the end closest to St Nicholas Church of England Primary School, while a sculpture known as Flight Trace will be put up at the other end, near Monks Wood.\n<\/p>\n

\n Flight Trace, by artist James Fox, will be \u201cderived from bird flight path data\u201d to create a wave that will be suspended atop stainless steel poles.\n<\/p>\n
\n Around four metres long and two-and-a-half metres tall, planning documents said it will include 380 stainless steel pieces that will \u201creflect sky and landscape, visually integrating the work into its surroundings across changing light and seasons\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
\n Permission for the sculpture was granted by Stevenage Borough Council\u2019s planning committee at a meeting on June 30.\n<\/p>\n
\n One committee member, Cllr Peter Clark, described the sculpture as \u201ca squiggly thing\u201d and an \u201cabstract\u201d work of art.\n<\/p>\n
\n The other sculpture, by artist Tom Hill, features a stag, an animal that is \u201cdeeply rooted in Hertfordshire\u2019s history and culture\u201d, according to planning documents.\n<\/p>\n

\n The sculpture, which will reach a height of four-and-a-half metres, was described as \u201cwonderful\u201d by committee member Cllr Julie Ashley-Wren, who added: \u201cThe inclusion of leaves above the antlers is really perfect for the setting.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Another committee member, Cllr Jackie Hollywell said she had concerns about people \u201cclimbing\u201d on the sculpture, but joined colleagues in unanimously voting to grant planning permission for the artwork.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe all struggle with day-to-day life but there\u2019s things that make you happy and improve life \u2026 things like public art and art generally,\u201d Cllr Hollywell said.\n<\/p>\n
\n It is hoped that both sculptures will be in place by the end of August.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n They are part of a series of four artworks commissioned as part of the Stevenage Arts & Heritage Trail programme.\n<\/p>\n
\n The artworks are entirely funded by a grant from the government\u2019s Towns Fund, with each artwork costing a total of \u00a340,000.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
