\n Mr and Mrs Foster had put forward plans for a self-build home on land near St Mary’s Church in Tittleshall, near Fakenham.\n<\/p>\n
\n The home would be two-storeys tall and feature four bedrooms, a kitchen\/dining room, sitting room, study, en-suite bathrooms, and wine storage among other features.\n<\/p>\n
\n A new access track running west onto Church Road will serve the proposed home, with the couple also willing to gift land to extend the churchyard to provide more cemetery space.\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\n The plans were refused by Breckland Council in April with planners saying the home’s location in the open countryside would “not represent a sustainable form of development”.\n<\/p>\n
\n The decision notice added that it would result in “an erosion of the intrinsic character and beauty of the countryside” and cause “visual and spatial harm to the wider landscape”.\n<\/p>\n
\n Locals also raised mixed views to the proposals, describing the applicants as making positive contributions to village life and supporting the proposed churchyard extension.\n<\/p>\n
\n However, others expressed concerns over the harm to the Grade I listed church and unsafe access onto the narrow road.\n<\/p>\n
\n An appeal has now been put forward to the Planning Inspectorate, which rules over planning disputes.\n<\/p>\n

\n In a statement on behalf of Mr and Mrs Foster, it was argued that the proposal was not in open countryside and “completes the cluster of buildings to the east of the village”.\n<\/p>\n
\n The statement added that the council’s reason to refuse for unsustainability was “extraordinary” due to the lack of services in the village requiring everyone to travel by car.\n<\/p>\n
\n It also pointed out that the churchyard extension would “constitute a public benefit” and “outweigh any harm to the church”.\n<\/p>\n
\n A decision on whether or not the appeal has been successful will be made at a later date.\n<\/p>\n
