BBC<\/a> presenter Lauren Laverne has shared a statement online announcing that she\u2019s been diagnosed with \u2018smouldering myeloma\u2019.<\/p>\n In\u00a0November 2024<\/a>, the Desert Island Discs host was given the \u2018all clear\u2019 after being diagnosed with cancer<\/a> in August of the same year.<\/p>\n Lauren, 48, took to Instagram<\/a> today with a health update, explaining to her followers she has now been diagnosed with a \u2018chronic condition\u2019.<\/p>\n She said: \u2018I\u2019ve been diagnosed with something called smouldering myeloma (yes that is a weird name and no I\u2019d never heard of it either). <\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s an asymptomatic blood and bone marrow disorder that in some people can develop into blood cancer.\u2019<\/p>\n Continuing, she wrote: \u2018Thankfully for me the risk of this happening in my case is pretty low. <\/p>\n \t\t \u2018At the moment I feel OK and don\u2019t need treatment.<\/p>\n \u2018Most people my age who have it have no idea \u2013 it tends to be cancer survivors like me who are diagnosed early as we\u2019re so carefully monitored.<\/p>\n \u2018It has nothing to do with my previous illness or my recent surgery, it\u2019s just one of those things.\u2019 <\/p>\n Lauren explained that there is no cure and her immune system is \u2018a bit compromised\u2019. Because of the diagnosis, she\u2019ll be monitored carefully with blood tests, MRIs and bone marrow biopsies, which she says she has \u2018recently discovered are even less fun than they sound\u2019. <\/p>\n Talking about her decision to share her diagnosis, the broadcaster said that \u2018seeing others in the public eye cope with comparable situations has helped [her]\u2019.<\/p>\n She captioned her post: \u2018I call it Smouldering Mye. Sounds more like a drag queen.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t In August 2024, Lauren announced she had been diagnosed with cancer and was recovering in hospital. She returned to work in November the same year after \u2018taking some time off to get better\u2019. <\/p>\n Lauren said in her most recent post that although she has had some \u2018difficult experiences in the last eight years\u2019, she has \u2018learned more from them than some people do in a lifetime\u2019. <\/p>\n Under her post, Lauren received well-wishes from friends and fans. Jessie Ware wrote: \u2018Sending you all the love. Thank you for sharing.\u2019<\/p>\n Dr Amir Khan left the note: \u2018Oh Lauren sending you all the love. You are such a wonderful beautiful person. Please call me if you need anything.\u2019<\/p>\n And Jamz Supernova remarked: \u2018Love Lauren you always lead by example and grace. Thank you for being you.
