{"id":698247,"date":"2026-07-18T10:26:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T10:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/698247\/"},"modified":"2026-07-18T10:26:19","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T10:26:19","slug":"shildon-teens-traumatic-treatment-contributed-to-death-inquest-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/698247\/","title":{"rendered":"Shildon teen&#8217;s traumatic treatment contributed to death, inquest finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This article contains details of suicide and self-harm<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A teenager took her own life in part because of treatment and trauma caused by her mental health care, a jury has found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Emily Moore, from Shildon, fatally injured herself at Lanchester Road Hospital in Durham days after her 18th birthday in February 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Concluding a four-week inquest, jurors said failings by Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) included Emily&#8217;s traumatic experiences at West Lane Hospital in Middlesbrough, which was &#8220;chaotic and unsafe&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">County Durham and Darlington Coroner Crispin Oliver said some of the problems were being dealt with and a public inquiry would delve further into the issues.
