{"id":699820,"date":"2026-07-19T10:57:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-19T10:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/699820\/"},"modified":"2026-07-19T10:57:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-19T10:57:21","slug":"images-show-45m-transformation-of-sheffields-crucible-theatre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/699820\/","title":{"rendered":"Images show \u00a345m transformation of Sheffield&#8217;s Crucible Theatre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">New images have been released to showcase how a &#8220;world-renowned venue&#8221; could look after a \u00a345m revamp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">As part of the plans, The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, which has hosted the World Snooker Championship since 1977, is set to increase capacity from 964 seats to 1,500, Sheffield City Council said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Pictures show the proposed look for its in-the-round stage, a redesigned entrance and a balcony overlooking Tudor Square.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Council leader Fran Belbin said: &#8220;These new images bring the vision for its future to life showing how we can preserve both its unique atmosphere and its legacy while creating a modern, sustainable venue fit for generations to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Crucible refurbishment is a key part of a deal agreed between the council, the venue and World Snooker Ltd to secure the future of the tournament in Sheffield for at least 15 years and up to 20 years after the redevelopment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">World Snooker wanted increased audience capacity and improved visitor and behind-the-scenes facilities to stay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The deal was brokered following the intervention of outgoing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer during a visit to The Crucible in March.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"New images have been released to showcase how a &#8220;world-renowned venue&#8221; could look after a \u00a345m revamp.
