<\/p>\nJannik Sinner is now a two-time Wimbledon winner, having powered through his match on Sunday against Alexander Zverev. For the big day, the sartorial order of play was pretty much the same as it has been throughout the tournament: Sinner was kitted out in his Nike best. He wore his custom kicks, but it was his perforated jacket that really stole the show on Centre court \u2014 and might even have helped him secure the title.<\/p>\n
The Nike Radical Airflow jacket is a custom piece designed specifically for Sinner. It is also a very serious bit of kit. At first glance, it may look like the material has been seen to by an angry pack of moths, but there is method in the madness of its unconventional construction. <\/p>\n
The technology was first introduced in summer 2025 through Nike\u2019s ACG (All Conditions Gear) line, and is the brainchild of Nike scientists and designers who wanted to create apparel that harnesses the air around a runner in motion to help keep them cool. \u201cAn athlete\u2019s sweat evaporation plays a significant role in helping cool the body,\u201d says Jahan Behbahany, senior director, Nike Apparel Innovation. \u201cWe were interested in a material that could accelerate the velocity of airflow to skin and help speed up that evaporative cooling process. We knew we had the people, the tools and the resources to develop it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Essentially, it is a reimagining of traditional mesh and ventilation. The team at Nike believed that engineered air ducts throughout the garment could capture air, speed it up and funnel it through the holes towards the skin. Which is why it works for Sinner<\/a>, who is faced with the challenge of spending a good few hours sweating it out on Centre Court.<\/p>\n Right now, Sinner\u2019s jacket is not up for grabs, but we reckon it soon will be. Perforated performance wear looks set to become the norm, as more brands get in on the act. Satisfy, the cult running brand founded in 2015, has its own perforated MothTech ventilated pieces, adopted by some of the best runners in the world, while NYC-based Bandit also does punctured kit.
