{"id":700938,"date":"2026-07-20T03:38:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T03:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/700938\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T03:38:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T03:38:11","slug":"the-end-of-oak-street-new-footage-anne-hathaway-dinosaurs-in-4dx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/700938\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The End of Oak Street&#8217; New Footage: Anne Hathaway, Dinosaurs in 4DX"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhat\u2019s more thrilling than watching dinosaurs try to eat people alive on the big screen?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWatching dinosaurs try to eat people alive on the big screen in 4DX, as unveiled in a special preview of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/the-end-of-oak-street\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-end-of-oak-street\" data-tag=\"the-end-of-oak-street\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The End of Oak Street<\/a>\u201d on Saturday night in Los Angeles. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the sci-fi movie from \u201cIt Follows\u201d director <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/david-robert-mitchell\/\" id=\"auto-tag_david-robert-mitchell\" data-tag=\"david-robert-mitchell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Robert Mitchell<\/a> and producer <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/j-j-abrams-3\/\" id=\"auto-tag_j-j-abrams-3\" data-tag=\"j-j-abrams-3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">J.J Abrams<\/a> (working under his Bad Robot banner), married couple Denise (<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/anne-hathaway\/\" id=\"auto-tag_anne-hathaway\" data-tag=\"anne-hathaway\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anne Hathaway<\/a>) and Greg (Ewan McGregor) must fight to save their family once a cosmic event rips through Oak Street, relocating their home from their familiar, ordinary neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA crowd of journalists and influencers previewed 14 minutes of new footage, presented in 4DK: Denise and Greg exit their house in a desperate search for their dog, Starbuck (an affectionate nod to \u201cBattlestar Galactica\u201d), leaving their two kids behind, played by \u201cMy Old Ass\u201d breakout Maisy Stella and \u201cSweet Tooth\u201d lead Christian Convery. But a baseball bat and shotgun as weapons can only do so much as Denise and Greg split up, travel across their vast suburban neighborhood, narrowly cheat death from a speedy dinosaur (as shown in the original trailer) and attempt to escape in their family car \u2014 only to discover that not only has Oak Street been mysteriously relocated, but they have been plopped right into the world of roaming dinosaurs, in all different sizes and terrifying types.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt\u2019s safe to say there\u2019s no easy escape from Oak Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe audience giggled nervously as their seats rocked and rolled during the tense chase scene, and whenever the dinosaur went in for an attack, a squirt of water shot out from behind each audience member\u2019s seat. Mitchell entered the theater just after the clip ended and was delighted by the immersive effects. \u201cEspecially seeing the seats shifting with the driving!\u201d he remarked, laughing, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMitchell \u2014 who stopped by while on a break from production on the highly anticipated \u201cThey Follow\u201d \u2014  told the crowd of journalists and influencers how he imagined plopping dinosaurs into suburban life: \u201cThe idea of a normal neighborhood was something that is so fantastical. I thought the merging of those two things would be interesting, grounding the spectacle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-variety-2020\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/WB_EOOS_260630_FU_1747_E.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tDavid Robert Mitchell and JJ Abrams attend the sneak preview event for Warner Bros. Pictures\u2019 \u201cThe End Of Oak Street\u201d at the Regal Sherman Oaks Theatre on July 18.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFlannery Underwood\/WB<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBeyond being advertised as an end-of-summer blockbuster, Mitchell and Abrams emphasized that \u201cThe End of Oak Street\u201d is anchored by the core family dynamics. \u201cThe brilliance of what you wrote is that each of the characters has a secret, essentially. Each of the characters has something they\u2019re wrestling with, but they\u2019re a family that you so connect with and so root for and believe in,\u201d Abrams said. \u201cIt\u2019s not a sadistic movie. It\u2019s got a big heart at its core.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMitchell explained that he needed a cast \u201cthat brought a certain level of performance and naturalism to the family so that we could really be drawn in.\u201d He said, \u201cThey are us. It\u2019s the idea of being able to view ourselves. They are a traditional family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor example, Hathaway\u2019s Denise was written as a loving mother with her own ambitions. \u201cThere\u2019s this conflict of, \u2018Where am I in my life and how am I connecting to the people I care about?&#8217;\u201d he said, adding, \u201cEach of the kids has their own issues. They are all put into conflict, and those issues are elevated when they find themselves in this incredibly dangerous situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMitchell went on to explain how he switches perspective between Hathaway and McGregor\u2019s characters as they discover the horrors spread across their neighborhood, including one moment when an older neighbor is found dead on their floor near a trail of blood. \u201cIt\u2019s really about the subjective and the objective, finding ways to express a moment, visually, in an interesting way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMichael Giacchino, who scored all three \u201cJurassic World\u201d films and \u201cThe Lost World\u201d video game, brings a tense, eerie atmosphere through the music heard in the footage. \u201cHe identifies, like any great composer, the heartbeat of the scene, something you might have been aware of,\u201d Abrams said. \u201cHe will excavate something, emphasize something, and all of a sudden, everything gets elevated because of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAbrams compared \u201cThe End of Oak Street\u201d to a great episode of \u201cThe Twilight Zone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cOn one hand, you sort of know what you\u2019re going to get, but you really don\u2019t know what you\u2019re going to get,\u201d he explained. \u201cThe story is so specific and unique to these characters and so emotional. When I go to the movies, my dream is to just be taken and to experience a wealth of emotions and things, and get to have a really full meal. It\u2019s rare to do that in a movie that is a genre film.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe End of Oak Street\u201d will roar into theaters Aug. 14 from Warner Bros. Pictures.
