Roads will be closed in Devon today due to a major bicycle race.<\/p>\n
Police said officers will be setting up rolling road closures across North and Mid Devon to keep people safe during the South Molton Grand Prix.<\/p>\n
The event, hosted by British Cycling, will be held on Sunday, July 19, and is due to start at 10am from Pannier Market in South Molton.<\/p>\n
Roads along the course will be closed for short periods until 4pm to allow cyclists to pass safely.<\/p>\n
Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police will be overseeing road closures and are asking people to seek alternative routes where possible.<\/p>\n
Sgt Robert Brown, neighbourhood beat manager patrolling South Molton, said \u201cWe\u2019re working with the council to minimise disruption on the roads, but please be aware that there may be delays if you are planning to travel in the area on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recommend allowing extra time for journeys and seeking alternative routes where possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you are on the road and do encounter a closure, please follow signage and instructions from event marshals and police officers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for your patience and support as we welcome this exciting national sporting event to our area. We wish all competitors a safe and successful race.\u201d<\/p>\n
The women\u2019s race starts at 10am and will see participants cycling along the B3137 turning left at Gidley cross, left again at Batsworthy Cross, and will then head back into South Molton. This circuit will be repeated four times to complete the race.<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s race starts at 1pm. Cyclists will head out of the Pannier Market, onto the B3137 and will travel through Meshaw, Witheridge, and Nomansland to Tiverton<\/a> where they will turn left to travel along the Rackenford Road until they turn left at Batsworthy Cross, Gidley Cross before travelling back into South Molton.<\/p>\n For more information about the event, visit the National Cycling page.<\/p>\n
