A senior physiotherapist at a Clydebank hospital is set to fly the flag for Scotland at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.<\/a><\/p>\n

Madeleine (Maddy) Silcock, who works at the Golden Jubilee, will compete in the team sprint event at the Sir Chris Hoy<\/a> Velodrome on Thursday, July 30, following a remarkable rise through the elite cycling ranks.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old only took up track cycling three-and-a-half years ago after a successful athletics career.<\/p>\n

And since then, her dedication and natural talent have seen her progress rapidly to the international stage while continuing her full-time role supporting patients at NHS<\/a> Golden Jubilee.<\/p>\n

Maddy, who is originally from Aberdeenshire, first took up cycling in Cardiff after being encouraged to try a new sporting challenge.<\/p>\n

Since moving to Glasgow in 2025 to train alongside her coach and be closer to family, Maddy has continued to go from strength to strength.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, she produced one of the fastest Scottish lap times recorded in recent years at the British National Championships and secured her first national medal as part of a bronze medal-winning team.<\/p>\n

Now, she is preparing to compete on one of the biggest stages of her career, representing Team Scotland in front of a home crowd at the Commonwealth Games this summer.<\/p>\n

Maddy said: \u201cI feel incredibly proud. To go from one sport into a completely new one and reach a senior major Games like the Commonwealths is something I never imagined a few years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnowing it\u2019s in Glasgow makes it even more special, having that support from a home crowd and my family will be incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maddy balances an intensive training schedule of up to six days a week with her professional role, and she credits the support and flexibility of her colleagues and management team as being key to her success.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cIt\u2019s not easy managing both, but I\u2019ve had amazing support from my team, which has made all the difference. Being able to adjust my hours and have that flexibility has allowed me to train and prepare properly for the Games.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Maddy is aiming to deliver a strong performance in the team’s sprint event, with her sights firmly set on reaching the podium.<\/p>\n

Joint Acting Head of Rehabilitation, Fiona Nolan said: \u201cEveryone at NHS Golden Jubilee is incredibly proud of Maddy and what she has achieved. To balance a demanding role as a Senior Physiotherapist with the dedication, discipline and commitment required to compete at this level is truly inspiring.<\/p>\n
