R\u00cdO DE JANEIRO, Brasil (Special for Turf Diario).- The countdown to the\u00a02025 Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1)\u00a0is already setting the tone for South America\u2019s racing scene, and this year\u2019s edition promises to be memorable for more than one reason. The\u00a0Jockey Club Brasileirohas confirmed that the prestigious event, to be staged October 18 at\u00a0Hip\u00f3dromo da G\u00e1vea, will go off at 8 p.m.\u2014marking the first time in its history the Latino will be contested under the lights in a planned nighttime edition.<\/p>\n
The backdrop could hardly be more spectacular: G\u00e1vea\u2019s turf course lit up against the unique setting of\u00a0Rio de Janeiro, with the region\u2019s best squaring off in the most lucrative race on the\u00a0OSAF\u00a0calendar, carrying a purse of $300,000.<\/p>\n
The official preview will take place Friday, Oct. 17, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the\u00a0Sal\u00f3n da Ferradura\u00a0in the club\u2019s social headquarters on Pra\u00e7a Santos Dumont 31, featuring the traditional press conference and final preparations for an event that transcends borders.<\/p>\n
But the Latino won\u2019t be the only headline act. The card will feature a full\u00a0group-race festival\u00a0open to international participation, with an added twist for visiting connections: in each of the five supporting G2 events, the Jockey Club Brasileiro will offer a\u00a0special $50,000 bonus\u00a0reserved exclusively for foreign-trained horses.<\/p>\n
The bonus distribution will be: $31,200 to the winner, $9,300 to second, $6,200 to third, and $3,100 to fourth\u2014on top of the regular purse money. The five bonus-eligible races are:<\/p>\n
GP Rocha Faria (G2)\u00a0\u2013 2000m turf, 3-year-old fillies<\/p>\n
GP Julio Capua (G2)\u00a0\u2013 1600m turf, 3-year-olds and up<\/p>\n
GP Cordeiro da Gra\u00e7a (G2)\u00a0\u2013 1000m turf, 3-year-olds and up<\/p>\n
GP Jo\u00e3o Borges Filho (G2)\u00a0\u2013 2400m turf, 4-year-olds and up<\/p>\n
GP Marciano de Aguiar Moreira (G2)\u00a0\u2013 2000m turf, fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up<\/p>\n
Organizers also noted that all Latino runners will be subject to\u00a0pre-race drug testing\u00a0in line with international standards, and that overseas arrivals are expected between Oct. 7 and 10.<\/p>\n
On the road to the big day, extra-invitees will be named Sept. 18, and the final field will be confirmed during the week of Sept. 23.<\/p>\n
