A patent filed by Sony<\/a> indicates the PS6<\/a> will avoid a flaw in the original PS5<\/a>\u2019s design, whether it\u2019s horizontal or vertical.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sony hasn\u2019t confirmed anything about the PlayStation 6 but, based on rumours and the company\u2019s decisions of late, there are a few features that seem a given at this point.<\/p>\n A handheld \u2013 whether separate or a hybrid device \u2013 has been rumoured for some time<\/a> and hinted at by Sony<\/a> on several occasions. Additionally, after the announcement that Sony will no longer release physical games with discs<\/a> after 2028, there\u2019s the obvious assumption that the PlayStation 6 will come without a disc drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n A recently spotted patent also points to a notable change under the hood of the console, which may fix a flaw in the original PlayStation 5.\u00a0<\/p>\n As spotted by Tech4Gamers<\/a>, Sony filed a patent<\/a> for a revised cooling system for consoles in early 2026 (which was published in April).\u00a0<\/p>\n A description reads: \u2018An electronic device is provided that can improve cooling capacity of a heating element built into an electronic device disposed in a plurality of postures.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tExpert, exclusive gaming analysis\t\t\t<\/p>\n Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter<\/a> for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning.<\/p>\n This suggests the new design will sport a more efficient cooling system, regardless of whether it\u2019s in a horizontal or vertical position.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t For context, early PlayStation 5 models were reportedly subject<\/a> to overheating and liquid metal leaking issues, especially when placed in the vertical position.
