The cinematographer on HBO<\/a>\u2019s upcoming\u00a0Harry Potter<\/a> series has described filming the show as \u201cbrutal\u201d due to the strict working schedules of its young cast.<\/p>\n

Production on the new adaptation began at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden last year, with the first season set to cover Harry Potter\u00a0And\u00a0The\u00a0Philosopher\u2019s Stone.\u00a0Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair\u00a0Stout\u00a0and Arabella Stanton will lead the cast<\/a> as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger respectively.<\/p>\n

Speaking recently to Andr\u00e9 Pilli on YouTube, cinematographer Adriano Goldman explained that the production has had to work around limits on how long its young actors are allowed to film, as well as their on-set education.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to shoot really fast, and the faster you go, the more you compromise quality,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s no way around it, right? Obviously, we have a lot of resources, but it\u2019s brutal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe kids\u2019 screen time is really brutal,\u201d he continued.\u00a0\u201cSo\u00a0the\u00a0methodology\u00a0is\u00a0very specific. You practically have to pre-shoot all the scenes while\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0in class.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Goldman said the three lead actors can sometimes be available on set for only \u201can hour and a half\u201d, adding:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s really hard; you shoot everything out of order, right, because of that kind of scheduling\u201d<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. was granted permission last year to operate a temporary school at Leavesden for the production\u2019s child actors. It is expected to remain in place for a decade and will typically accommodate around 150 pupils, rising to as many as 600 during the filming of large crowd scenes.<\/p>\n

Goldman\u2019s comments follow\u00a0HBO boss Casey\u00a0Bloys acknowledging the difficulty of producing the series quickly enough to prevent its young cast visibly ageing between instalments<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to not have a huge gap, you know, especially because the kids are growing,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not going to be annual; the show is too big and too massive. But\u2026 they\u2019re writing season two now.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The first\u00a0Harry Potter\u00a0trailer was shared in March and divided fans<\/a>, with some praising its visual\u00a0faithfulness\u00a0to the original films and others questioning why the story needed to be adapted again.<\/p>\n

Alongside the three young leads, the cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.<\/p>\n

The series is scheduled to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Christmas Day (December 25).<\/p>\n

It has also attracted backlash surrounding author and executive producer\u00a0J.K. Rowling<\/a>\u2019s anti-trans views and\u00a0public hostility towards the transgender community<\/a>.\u00a0Lithgow revealed that\u00a0he considered quitting the production<\/a>\u00a0following criticism of his\u00a0involvement, while\u00a0Frost has spoken out against Rowling\u2019s comments<\/a>.<\/p>\n

More recently,\u00a0Essiedu\u00a0revealed that he had received\u00a0racist abuse and death threats following his casting<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think of how I felt as a kid,\u201d he said. \u201cI would imagine myself at Hogwarts on broomsticks, and the idea that a kid like me can see themselves represented in that world?
