{"id":704523,"date":"2026-07-22T03:20:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T03:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/704523\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T03:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T03:20:08","slug":"amit-bhatia-consortium-expresses-interest-in-buying-minority-stake-in-liverpool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/704523\/","title":{"rendered":"Amit Bhatia consortium expresses interest in buying minority stake in Liverpool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">An investment consortium led by British-Indian millionaire and former QPR co-owner <a class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/2018-08-15\/queens-park-rangers-name-amit-bhatia-as-new-chairman-with-tony-fernandes-stepping-down\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amit Bhatia<\/a> has expressed an interest in acquiring a minority stake in <a class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/granada\/topic\/liverpool-fc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Liverpool owners <a class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/granada\/2023-09-28\/liverpool-fc-owners-sell-minority-stake-to-new-investors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fenway Sports Group<\/a> acknowledged the approach on the same day that Bhatia stepped down from the board at QPR to end an 18-year association, having agreed to transfer his stake in the club to majority owner Ruben Gnanalingam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">A spokesperson for FSG said: \u201cAn investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">No deal has been agreed with discussions at an early stage.<\/p>\n<p>No deal has been agreed with discussions at an early stage<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">In 2023, FSG sold a minority stake in Liverpool to investment firm Dynasty and any deal with Bhatia, should it proceed, is expected to be along similar lines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">FSG, which also owns the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Penguins, bought Liverpool in 2010 for \u00a3300million. Forbes recently valued the club at \u00a34.6billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">On Tuesday, Bhatia announced he was leaving his role at QPR. He served as vice-chairman before becoming chairman in 2018, a role he held for five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">In quotes on the QPR website, the 46-year-old said: \u201cSince joining the club in 2007, QPR has been a deeply important part of my life and of my family\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">\u201cOver nearly two decades we have shared promotions, relegations, unforgettable highs and painful lows, and the memories we have made at Loftus Road alongside the supporters will stay with us forever.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Bhatia announced he was leaving his role at QPR<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">\u201cI step back from my formal responsibilities with pride, gratitude and affection. I want to thank the players, managers, staff, the community trust, my fellow board members and, above all, the fans, who have made me and my family feel part of the QPR family for so many years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Bhatia is the son-in-law of Lakshimi Mittal, executive of steel and mining company ArcelorMittal.
