(ABC Great Southern: Astrid Volzke)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The spokesperson said one of the animals had died and was removed by Parks and Wildlife officers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The others were refloated by members of the public and returned to the ocean, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">DBCA said 10 of the dolphins re-stranded overnight. (ABC Great Southern: Astrid Volzke)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">On Wednesday afternoon, members of the public spotted the 12th dolphin on the rocks in the marina. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">DBCA Albany regional leader for nature conservation Deon Utber said the species of dolphin was typically found further north in warmer water, but could travel south.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It is certainly unusual to have these tropical species down in this area,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We do on occasion have tropical species come down, particularly with the Leeuwin current.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;These particular dolphins we&#8217;ve had once before in the Albany area, out of Two Peoples Bay a <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2013-02-03\/stranded-dolphins-near-albany-lured-back-out-to-sea\/4498136\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/4498136\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bit over 10 years ago<\/a>, and there have been other occurrences of these animals in Augusta, Perth, in the Pilbara and Broome as well, but rare to see them in Western Australia.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man wearing a white cap with his hand in the air looking at camera.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/f986dc65c71fefb76edc8a09602ceee9.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Deon Utber says the humane thing to do in these circumstances is to euthanase the animals. (ABC Great Southern: Astrid Volzke)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Utber said when dolphins come into shallow waters like this, it was usually because they were compromised in some way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The humane thing for animal welfare is euthanasia as animals, because they are not self-deploying, they&#8217;re not going back out into the wild by themselves, so they&#8217;re severely compromised.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Samples sent away for testing<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The spokesperson said samples were obtained from the carcasses for testing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A shark advice has been issued by Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development (DPIRD) due to the dolphin carcasses at Melville Point and the public are urged to avoid the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A DPIRD spokesperson said in a statement the samples collected by DBCA would be transported to Perth for analysis.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man in wetsuit holding a box with a 'bio hazard' warning sticker on it\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/c87a6954a7601d7c696bd00de55377c8.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has collected samples of the deceased dolphins for testing.
