{"id":705911,"date":"2026-07-22T21:21:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T21:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/705911\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T21:21:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T21:21:13","slug":"5m-celtic-linked-midfielder-becomes-free-agent-as-contract-terminated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/705911\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a35m Celtic-linked midfielder becomes free agent as contract terminated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The midfielder had been linked with a move to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/sport\/celtic?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Celtic<\/a> last summer, but instead joined Pisa on loan.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Stengs actually scored against Celtic in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/champions-league\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Champions League<\/a> for Feyenoord back in 2023, shortly after he joined the Eredivisie club from Nice in a deal worth in the region of \u00a35m.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The 27-year-old only managed four appearances on loan last term for Pisa as he suffered a groin injury which would see him sidelined for an extended period.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He had been touted for a move to Celtic or Leicester in the summer window before his loan spell in Italy.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Now, Stengs has left Feyenoord after a final send-off in pre-season with the club. His contract had been due to run until next summer.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  But the player is not clear where his next move will be, stating: &#8220;I don&#8217;t yet know what the future holds&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  On his departure from Feyenoord, Stengs commented: &#8220;Saying goodbye to Feyenoord is difficult, because I have felt welcomed and at home here from day one.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;From everyone at the club to the incredible supporters who are always there. To receive so much positive support from the fans again when I returned this summer and after the first pre-season friendly really meant a lot to me.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;To the supporters, thank you. You were incredible.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Winning trophies here at Feyenoord is something I will always be proud to tell my children about.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I don&#8217;t yet know what the future holds, but this decision is the best one for both of us at this moment.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Being able to play football is the most important thing for me now. I wish everyone at the club all the best.
