Roma’s summer pursuit of a marquee wide forward has collapsed on two fronts, with Crysencio Summerville heading to Saudi Arabia and Alejandro Garnacho set for Aston Villa.

According to Tuttosport, Al-Hilal have gatecrashed the Summerville negotiation at its final stage, tabling around €75 million including bonuses to West Ham and offering the Dutchman a contract worth €16 million net per season until 2031.

Roma had agreed a fee of around €50 million with the London club and proposed personal terms of €4.5 million a year, with Summerville having appeared convinced, but Simone Inzaghi’s side made an offer neither the player nor West Ham could reasonably refuse.

Garnacho waited for Roma before choosing Aston Villa

The second blow came almost simultaneously, as Fabrizio Romano reports that Garnacho, long courted by Roma, waited for the Giallorossi until the very end before opting to remain in the Premier League with Villa.

The decisive factor was structure: the Friedkins’ proposal involved a loan with an obligation to buy conditional on the Argentine reaching 60% of appearances, whereas Villa’s conditions were easier met.

The double setback leaves Tony D’Amico back at square one and Gian Piero Gasperini still waiting for the attacking reinforcement he has demanded since pre-season began.

The coach had already made clear his frustration at Roma’s pace in the market following Zeki Celik’s departure to Juventus, and with the club’s self-imposed wage ceiling shaping what they can offer, the search for a wide man to support Paulo Dybala and Matias Soulé must now begin again, with alternatives such as Ajax’s Mika Godts among the names still on the list.
