Four bonus tracks, three previously unheard, will be part of a 20th anniversary re-released of Seger\u2019s 16th studio album, \u201cFace the Promise,\u201d due out Sept. 18. The songs were recorded during the same sessions that produced the original 12 track album; \u201cRed Eye to Memphis\u201d was available as an iTunes bonus track at the time, while \u201cTime,\u201d \u201cLittle Jane\u201d and \u201cLet Me Try\u201d have never been released.<\/p>\n
\u201cLittle Jane\u201d is one of three instant-gratification tracks, along with the album\u2019s \u201cWait For Me\u201d and \u201cWreck This Heart,\u201d for those pre-ordering the album. Seger previewed the album announcement with a social media video detailing the writing of \u201cWait For Me,\u201d which was the album\u2019s lead single.<\/p>\n
Released Sept. 12, 2006, \u201cFace the Promise\u201d was Seger\u2019s first new album since \u201cIt\u2019s a Mystery\u201d in 1995. Recorded in Nashville with session musicians rather than members of his Silver Bullet Band, the set debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum. At the time Seger said the long gap between albums was spent mostly raising his children \u2014 son Cole and daughter Samantha \u2014 but he was inspired to put something out after his 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was kind of like, \u2018Oh, man, now you\u2019re in the Hall of Fame \u2014 (the album) better be pretty damn good!\u2019,\u201d he explained. \u201cI don\u2019t want to put some dog meat out there if I\u2019m in the Hall of Fame \u2014 know what I mean?\u201d<\/p>\n
Seger had, in fact, recorded an album with the Silver Bullet Band called \u201cBlue Ridge,\u201d which he had ready in the late 90s. He scrapped it, however, feeling that the sonics weren\u2019t up to snuff. \u201cWe listened to it next to what was on the radio,\u201d Seger recalled. \u201cI was listening to groups like matchbox twenty and stuff like that, and the sonic sound compared to what we had, it sounded like a garage band. So rather than re-record everything, I just kept writing.\u201d He added that working with the Nashville musicians \u2014 a corps that included Silver Bullet backing vocalists Shaun Murphy and Laura Creamer as well as onetime touring keyboardist Bill Payne of Little Feat \u2014 was simply \u201can expedient way of doing things.\u201d<\/p>\n
Songs on the original album included duets with Patty Loveless on \u201cThe Answer\u2019s in the Question\u201d and with Kid Rock on Vince Gill\u2019s \u201cReal Mean Bottle.\u201d The song \u201cSimplicity,\u201d meanwhile, was inspired by the Detroit Pistons\u2019 NBA championship season during 2005-2006.<\/p>\n

\u201cFace the Promise\u201d also brought Seger back on the road for the first time in more than 10 years; the tour kicked off Nov. 8, 2006, in Grand Rapids and included five shows at Joe Louis Arena and three at Cobo Arena.<\/p>\n
