\n A report setting outing progress towards the delivery of the local regeneration fund (LRF) active travel schemes in Burtonwood, Culcheth and on the A49 linking to Winwick will come before the council\u2019s cabinet on Monday.\n<\/p>\n
\n The report seeks approval to award contracts to develop detailed designs and procure supporting technical information for the schemes.\n<\/p>\n
\n It says: \u201cThe council has been awarded \u00a39.4m grant funding by government under the LRF with approximately \u00a38.1m from this grant alongside additional contributions allocated to the delivery of three active travel schemes.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n It says the LRF programme is delivering the following packages of schemes to \u2018reconnect settlements\u2019 in north Warrington and improve community facilities:\n<\/p>\n
Burtonwood \u2013 upgrades to community buildings including Burtonwood Community Centre and Gorsey Lane Pavilion, and delivery of an active travel route connecting between Clay Lane and Green Jones Brow.<\/p>\n
Winwick \u2013 active route alongside the A49 connecting between Rectory Lane and the Cromwell Avenue roundabout.<\/p>\n
Culcheth \u2013 active travel route from New Hall Lane linking into wider improvements over junction 11 of the M62 and towards Birchwood.<\/p>\n
\n The report adds: \u201cThe government confirmed \u00a39.4m grant funding for the LRF Warrington North projects in November 2024 to reconnect settlements in north Warrington and improve community facilities. Approximately \u00a38.1m from this grant alongside additional contributions is allocated to the delivery of three active travel schemes to improve accessibility by walking, wheeling (wheelchairs, prams, non-motorised scooters etc) and cycling.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe schemes will improve access to jobs, education and services, whilst also giving residents access to leisure opportunities. In turn this will bring a range of benefits to including boosting the economy, improving health and tackling carbon emissions at a local level.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n The Burtonwood active travel scheme will provide a shared use path which is useable all year round and is suitable for walking, wheeling (wheelchairs, prams, and non-electric scooters) and cycling. It will connect Clay Lane to Chapel Lane via the Burtonwood Community Centre.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Culcheth active travel scheme aims to improve walking, wheeling and cycling links between Culcheth and towards Birchwood to improve access to job opportunities in Birchwood, the motorway service area development, and areas in Warrington south of the M62. The scheme will also \u2018give leisure opportunities\u2019 for residents to access green spaces.\n<\/p>\n
\n A wide shared use path is planned suitable for walking, wheeling and cycling between New Hall Lane in Culcheth towards Birchwood connecting into Silver Lane south of the M62 junction 11.\n<\/p>\n
\n And in relation to the A49 Winwick access improvements scheme, the improvements will run along the A49 from Winwick village in the north to Long Lane in the south. This builds on recent improvements on the A49 which \u2018improved travel\u2019 between Long Lane and the Halliwell Jones Stadium, the home of Warrington Wolves.\n<\/p>\n
\n The schemes are estimated to cost a total of \u00a310,415,765.\n<\/p>\n
\n The report adds: \u201cThe majority of the schemes are funded from government\u2019s local regeneration fund with some funding from council borrowing. The council is also in discussions with National Highways regarding a contribution to the A49 scheme.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cShould unexpected cost overruns be encountered, WBC has access to additional funding from the Department for Transport through the integrated transport fund and\/or value engineering will be conducted.
