\n\tMaya Jama<\/a> is the host of Love Island<\/a> UK, which is wrapping up its summer season in the Mallorca villa.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe UK\u2019s ITV2<\/a> dating series streams on Hulu<\/a> in the United States, and Jama\u2019s profile continues to grow among American audiences. The Disney-owned streamer has plastered billboards of Jama all over major cities promoting the show, with the presenter telling Deadline it\u2019s \u201cwild.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s been amazing. I get sent photos of those billboards, which is wild to be honest,\u201d Jama told us in a recent interview. \u201cI\u2019ve got some friends that live [in America], and they\u2019re like, \u2018Look! There\u2019s your big head next to Kim Kardashian.\u2019 So that\u2019s crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough Jama explained she doesn\u2019t get actual viewing numbers from Hulu, she\u2019s noticed an influx of fans reaching out to her on social media telling her things like, \u201cI love you from Wisconsin,\u201d adding, \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018This is cute. This is crazy,\u2019 and it\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJama is the ultimate bombshell of Love Island, and one of the gripes viewers have had this season was that she didn\u2019t make more appearances in the villa, but the host thinks that might\u2019ve been for a good reason.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was actually upset myself,\u201d Jama said about her limited time in the villa this season. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m ready. Put me in.\u2019 But the producers know what they\u2019re doing. I think they just had so much drama and entertainment backed up that they\u2019re like, \u2018We don\u2019t actually need you in here yet.\u2019 Now we\u2019re at the end of the series; I\u2019ve actually been in a couple more times, but yeah, I was on hiatus, not by choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Love Island villa is set in Mallorca, Spain, and every Sunday, Jama hosts the weekly companion series Love Island Aftersun in London. Jama explained that her turning up in the villa is \u201cvery dependent on what\u2019s happening,\u201d adding, \u201cI\u2019m always on standby for the whole two months, and then usually they\u2019ll know about a week before, sometimes even like four days before if they want to send me in. So when I\u2019m booking other jobs and things, it\u2019s penciled in, but if I have to go in the villa last minute, we\u2019re gonna have to move.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJama is a beloved host, and one of the things that viewers like is how she handles difficult situations in the villa, with the presenter saying, \u201cLove Island\u00a0knew who I was when they employed me, and I\u2019ve never been just like a straight read-the-script-down-the-line presenter. I think there\u2019s definitely a human aspect to\u00a0Love Island,\u00a0and it\u2019s real feelings and emotions and people are falling in love and falling out of love, and they\u2019re arguing, and that\u2019s all real.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf I\u2019m there and I\u2019m the person that they\u2019re looking to, I will treat them as humans too and react,\u201d she continued. \u201cI would act as if it was one of my friends that stormed off crying or whoever. The editors can take it out if they want, but I will always add a bit of a human aspect.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThat humanity that Jama shows to the Islanders on Love Island is also something she practices in her life, helping out young women who look up to her and also want a career in entertainment with a mentorship program she spearheads.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have always wanted to do something like it, and I\u2019ve kind of just helped out on the sideline, not officially. Young girls [have reached] out to me throughout my career and say, \u2018Hey, do you have any advice on this and that? And when the opportunity came about to do it officially and actually take on however many women, young women from not so privileged backgrounds, like myself from where I came from, it was just like, \u2018100% Let\u2019s do this,’\u201d she said. \u201cI was lucky enough to have a bunch of women that I\u2019ve worked with and have personal friendships with from different sides of the industry that were super happy to be on board and really got involved and took the mentees on as like their own children.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe continued, \u201cI just think because it is really difficult to enter this industry and to just even know where to start. But there\u2019s so many talented young people, and they don\u2019t have the resources and they don\u2019t have the connections and they don\u2019t have the hand to help them. It was kind of a no-brainer. Our first one went so well. Loads of the girls have jobs in their dream fields, and took so many things from the experience that now, doing it again, I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, let\u2019s keep going.\u2019 I wish I could do it for millions and millions of people. We\u2019re two in, and hopefully it keeps going.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the Love Island Season 13 finale coming up, Jama also teased what viewers can expect for the finale.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI will be in the villa again before the final, maybe once, maybe twice. So that\u2019s exciting,\u201d she said. \u201cThey don\u2019t let me tell you, guys, anything. They did tell me that this final is going to be a bit different to the rest of them. They\u2019re shaking up the format. I still don\u2019t even know what that shakeup is, but I know there\u2019s going to be a different format for the final. Live TV is my favorite. This is where I thrive because I can say silly things and go off script as much as possible without them being able to edit it out.\u201d<\/p>\n
