(Image: Dan Goldsmith)

Mr Goldsmith said: “They are often seen along the coast. We have had a few wash up in Norfolk over the years.”

Minke whales can weigh up to 20,000 pounds, making them the smallest of the great baleen whales.

The discovery comes after several videos of a whale in the sea near the village were posted over the last few days.

A spokesman for Great Yarmouth Borough Council said: “The council is in the process of removing the dead whale from the beach at Hemsby.

“However, it is quite a complex task because of the weight of the animal and its condition.

“The tide patterns, which limit the time when work can be carried out, are also a factor. It may take some time for the animal to be removed safely, and it is important people stay away from the animal while the work is carried out.”

The whale is one of several which have washed up around the shores of Norfolk over the years.

In June 2023, a minke whale washed up on Old Hunstanton beach and in December 2019, a dead 30ft minke whale was found washed up at Heacham.

The giant mammal is understood to have washed up on the sand at Hemsby, near Great Yarmouth, sometime…

[26
90,56,54,55,4407
post-708880","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wildlife","tag-science","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom","tag-wildlife
["GET
