It\u2019s now been over a week since Red Bull\u2013BORA\u2013hansgrohe announced the signing of Remco Evenepoel<\/a> from Soudal Quick-Step. The German team boss Ralph Denk has made it clear<\/a> that Evenepoel isn\u2019t joining just for the Tour de France<\/a>, a move that Johan Bruyneel<\/a> believes is the right call.The former rider and ex-team manager analyzes Evenepoel\u2019s transfer on his THEMOVE podcast<\/a>.
\n\u201cIt was no secret that Remco wanted to leave. And I really do think this is a good move for him as well. This is the fresh start and new environment he needed. If he wanted to make another leap forward, he had to change teams.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bruyneel believes that his new squad simply has more firepower.
\n\u201cLet\u2019s be clear, Soudal Quick-Step fulfilled 95% of his wishes. But the initiative always had to come from him. That\u2019s where things will be different at Red Bull\u2013BORA\u2013hansgrohe. They have the infrastructure, the staff, and the money to do the thinking for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Remco Evenepoel clearly has the ambition to one day win the Tour de France. But according to Johan Bruyneel, he would be wise not to aim too high.
\n\u201cNo matter which team Remco rides for, he\u2019s never going to beat Tadej or Jonas (Pogacar and Vingegaard, ed.) in the Tour. It\u2019s that simple. Honestly, he should just take the Tour out of the equation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a different story if Pogacar ever decides to skip the race,\u201d Bruyneel adds, \u201cbut Remco has never really come close to Vingegaard, not even last year when Jonas wasn\u2019t at 100%.\u201d
\nStill, he emphasizes that this isn’t a dig at Red Bull\u2013BORA\u2013hansgrohe.
\n\u201cLook, Pogacar and Vingegaard aren\u2019t going anywhere. They\u2019ll stay with UAE Team Emirates and Visma | Lease a Bike for the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBehind those two, you\u2019ve got a group of top riders and Remco is absolutely in that group. Let\u2019s not forget he was third in the Tour last year, he\u2019s already won the Vuelta, he\u2019s a multiple-time world and Olympic champion\u2026 Of that caliber, he was the only rider on the market,\u201d he believes. \u201cPlus, Primoz Roglic is nearing the end of his career, and Florian Lipowitz still has to prove himself. So in that sense, it makes perfect sense for Red Bull to sign Evenepoel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even with other GC leaders on the squad, Bruyneel doesn\u2019t see an issue.
\n\u201cIf Tadej and Jonas are racing, you\u2019re not the favorite anyway. So you don\u2019t need to control the race and that means having two leaders isn\u2019t a problem. You just let the road decide who\u2019s better.\u201d<\/p>\n
