Those planning to buy GTA 6\u2019s<\/a> physical edition in Japan \u2013 which consists of a code in the box<\/a> if you recall \u2013 will have just 170 days to redeem their voucher, otherwise it\u2019ll expire.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s particularly remarkable here is that the text on Rockstar\u2019s website<\/a> appears to imply the countdown begins with the title\u2019s 19th November, 2026 release date \u2013 not the point of sale.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s specifically what it says:<\/p>\n

“Product codes in Japan will expire 170 days after the issuance date, which is the launch date (November 19, 2026) due to regional regulations.”<\/p>\n

That means any copies purchased after 8th May, 2027 will be ineligible. Rockstar\u2019s blaming \u201cregional regulations\u201d on this, but it\u2019s unclear specifically what they are.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that this issue is, as far as I can see, restricted to Japan for now \u2013 there is no 170 day timeline in any other country.<\/p>\n

Of course, Sony\u2019s said that it\u2019ll continue to support retailers once it ceases manufacturing discs in January 2028<\/a>, likely with codes in a box. If this issue doesn\u2019t get cleaned up, then it looks like that\u2019s going to be a particularly poor experience for Japanese customers.<\/p>\n
