Christopher Anne Affleck, the mother of Oscar<\/a>-winning actors Ben and Casey Affleck<\/a>, has died at the age of 83. <\/p>\n

Her obituary, published in The Boston Globe, confirmed she passed away “peacefully in her sleep” on 2 June.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate Ms Affleck had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer before her death, with her obituary noting she was “given six months to live in December of 2025”.<\/p>\n

Born in New York City in 1942, Ms Affleck was a Harvard University graduate who pursued a 35-year career as a public school teacher, retiring in 2008. <\/p>\n

She was also a dedicated civil rights activist, influenced by her stepfather Sam, and taught literacy classes in Mississippi during the 1964 Freedom Summer campaign.<\/p>\n

She was married to Timothy Affleck, and they welcomed their sons, Ben in 1972 and Casey in 1975.<\/p>\n

The obituary details how her sons Ben and Casey were her \u201cfavourite young people\u201d compared to her \u201ccherished\u201d students, and her five grandchildren were described as \u201cthe animating force of her last two decades\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cChris was suitably proud of her descendants\u2019 achievements, but she was delighted when they questioned, defied, or cleverly engaged authority,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n

Ms Affleck continued her activism after her retirement, and set out \u201cto both see the world and change it\u201d \u2013 having volunteered on the campaign trail for former US president Barack Obama.<\/p>\n

She also travelled to Palestine and Israel and returned from her travels \u201cas an organiser with the Alliance for Water Justice in Palestine\u201d, it said.<\/p>\n

Her obituary states she was a founding board member of the Sustainable Cape project in Truro, Massachusetts<\/a> \u2013 which is a non-profit organisation that builds local food systems, runs children\u2019s gardens, and operates educational farmers\u2019 markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen her granddaughter\u2019s student activist group needed a space for trainings, she invited them to Truro and attended every single workshop herself, taking notes,\u201d the obituary said.<\/p>\n

It also detailed how she received a terminal diagnosis last year, and said that her \u201cgreatest wish\u201d was \u201cto live to see her grandson graduate high school\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe did so, attending with her family on May 31, 2026. She died peacefully, in her sleep, two days later,\u201d the obituary said.<\/p>\n

Ms Affleck\u2019s eldest son, Ben, is best known for his breakthrough role in Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with his friend and fellow actor Matt Damon, who also starred in the film.<\/p>\n

Casey also appeared in the film, and starred in his brother\u2019s directorial debut Gone Baby Gone.<\/p>\n
