With most collections<\/a> taking place every couple of weeks, there is plenty of time for rubbish to accumulate. Once a wheelie bin has been filled, it can be tempting to place the excess rubbish next to it on bin day, hoping it will be disposed of. However, sometimes waste collectors leave any waste that hasn’t been placed in the bin.<\/p>\n

The rubbish can either be too large or is against council rules<\/a> to collect waste not inside a bin. Thankfully, a binman has settled the debate and confirmed whether it is worth putting rubbish out if it doesn’t fit in your bin.<\/p>\n

They can decide how rubbish is collected and what bins are used. It is always worth checking with your local council to see what rules are in place in your area.<\/p>\n

Ashley explained: “It depends on your council, every council will say something different. Some will allow it, some won’t.” The binman said that the council he works for doesn’t allow excess rubbish to be collected.<\/p>\n

He said: “Because we have to then pick it up and put it in the bin, but if your bin is too full then we can’t do that. Or if we do pick it up and it smashes, it is our fault and people complain.”<\/p>\n

“Some councils allow it, maybe paper,” he added. “But it is how you get it into the lorry, you can’t just lean in and add it in.”<\/p>\n
