It started with <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/national\/revealed-what-really-happened-at-the-pm-s-secretive-point-piper-dinner-20260724-p60i9r.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dinner with the prime minister,<\/a> only to be overshadowed days later by<a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/national\/sham-loans-unexplained-wealth-albanese-dinner-donor-s-260m-family-tax-fight-revealed-20260723-p60hxx.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> revelations about damning allegations from the tax office<\/a> about his father\u2019s \u201csham\u201d financial arrangements to funnel huge sums of money from China to Australia.<\/p>\n<p>An exhaustive investigation into the financial affairs of Phillip Lee has not only shed new light on the previously opaque origins of his wealth, but also included suspicions that the family patriarch continued operating his businesses in China decades after he told Australian authorities he had sold his business assets in China.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [tax] commissioner believes that Mr Lee still has business and financial interest in the PRC [People\u2019s Republic of China], notwithstanding his previous representations to the Australian government as part of his application for migration that all of his businesses in the PRC were sold,\u201d states the tax office affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>Further, \u201cthose businesses appear to be held in structures that mask Mr Lee\u2019s true ownership and control of those assets. In particular, the commissioner believes that Mr Lee has structured his financial affairs in such a way as to give the appearance that his mother and business associates are the owners of businesses, which are in truth operated and owned by him\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"More than 100 members of the Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club have sent a legal letter of demand to the Lee family management.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/00459814433a15b6313d8fe0675d350338e47dd3.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 ldCIuB\"\/>More than 100 members of the Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club have sent a legal letter of demand to the Lee family management.Wolter Peeters<\/p>\n<p>Felix Lee has sought to distance himself from his father\u2019s business and financial affairs in recent years, founding the Lee Family Office, and<a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/national\/nsw\/the-25-year-old-tasked-with-fixing-billionaire-father-s-mess-enlists-help-of-joe-hockey-20260123-p5nwh0.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> inviting former federal treasurer and ex-ambassador to the United States Joe Hockey on as chairman.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Felix Lee declined to comment in response to questions about the tax office\u2019s damning allegations about his father. \u201cPhillip Lee\u2019s tax affairs are his own and are not related to Felix Lee,\u201d a spokesperson said on his behalf earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>In response to inquiries about the legal letter, a spokesman for the club\u2019s management said both parties are communicating in relation to their clients\u2019 respective asserted, but contested, positions.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Felix Lee\u2019s week started with dinner with the prime minister and ended with a mutiny from members of his Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/e9d12a25fe6ad50e35c1c207bd64b88a2366226a.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 jvMZxu\"\/>Felix Lee\u2019s week started with dinner with the prime minister and ended with a mutiny from members of his Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe board has received legal correspondence, has considered the allegations carefully, and through its legal representatives has responded comprehensively, rejecting the allegations made,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cThe company maintains that it has acted lawfully, in accordance with the club\u2019s Constitution and its directors\u2019 duties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Central to Felix Lee\u2019s responsibilities in recent years has been the Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club, a prestigious championship course purchased by his parents from a syndicate of Japanese investors a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p>Felix Lee was appointed director in November 2020, a few weeks after his 20th birthday, and more recently elevated to chairman. Fellow board members include his uncle Victor Lin, known among members as a passionate golfer, and Felix\u2019s younger brother Edward Feng Zhao Lee, who was appointed early last year soon after his 19th birthday. He was Phillip Lee\u2019s son, and he just launched into a tirade saying \u2018you guys have to know your place\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Kalil and others understood it, things were set for a shake-up at the club. After injury left him unable to play for the past 18 months, he put his membership up for sale and expects it to sell for about $9000.<\/p>\n<p>After Stephen Schinagel\u2019s wife Heather Mead died, he made inquiries about putting her membership up for sale and was told late last year they were selling for about $20,000. It was a dramatic loss on the $65,000 she paid in 2017. It has since been discounted to $15,000 in a bid to hasten the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe market value of memberships is influenced by a range of factors, including broader economic conditions, discretionary spending, and market demand, and risks associated with membership were well documented in the several company prospectuses,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Members were hoping to flag their concerns at the annual general meeting held June 30, in particular about why annual fees increased given a $7.2 million cash reserve held by the club, but the opportunity never arose.<\/p>\n<p>Having opened the meeting, Felix Lee promptly announced there would be no dividend declared, and closed the meeting.
