The rookie Jackson Koivun shot a five-under-par 66 to stave off a charging Scottie Scheffler<\/a> and win \u2060on the PGA Tour for the first time at the 3M Open on Sunday at Blaine, \u2060Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Koivun, 21, finished \u2060at \u200b25 under par for a three-shot victory over Scheffler, who closed with a 63 at TPC Twin \u2060Cities. Less than two months ago, Koivun was helping Auburn to its second NCAA championship in a three-year \u2060stretch. He demonstrated more poise while playing the final two rounds \u200bof his third tournament \u200csince turning professional \u200cwithout making a bogey.<\/p>\n

Denny McCarthy (66), Brian Harman (65), Chandler Phillips (67) and Japan\u2019s Hideki \u200cMatsuyama (64) tied for third place at 20 under par.<\/p>\n

The world No 1, Scheffler, made birdie at three consecutive holes to begin the back nine as part of his bogey-free round. He made birdie at No 16 and 18, leaving him trailing by two strokes. Koivun then \u200cmade birdie at 16, extending the margin to three strokes with two holes to play.<\/p>\n

Koivun surged into the lead across the final nine holes on Saturday and then went right to work on Sunday, with his approach shot on the first hole spinning \u2060back to within two feet of the cup for \u200ban easy birdie \u200bputt. A birdie on \u200bNo 4 pushed his lead to five strokes, with \u200bScheffler among \u200cfive golfers tied \u200bfor second \u200bplace at the time.<\/p>\n

Jake Knapp shot an early 62 to rise quickly on the leaderboard and finish at 16 under par, tying for 13th.
