{"id":712777,"date":"2026-07-27T00:35:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T00:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/712777\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T00:35:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T00:35:10","slug":"marwell-zoos-search-for-samba-continues-as-capybaras-move-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/712777\/","title":{"rendered":"Marwell Zoo&#8217;s search for Samba continues as capybaras move home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Samba escaped from the zoo on 17 March, less than 24 hours after arriving.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She managed to break free from a temporary enclosure with Tango, who was swiftly recaptured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Samba, described as the more adventurous of the two, has remained at large ever since.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Over the past four months, the young capybara has been spotted in a number of locations, including near a pub and basking on a riverbank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">On 6 July, search teams were sent to the Brambridge area after a fisherman reported a credible sighting at the end of June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Despite extensive efforts involving thermal-imaging drones and a specialist sniffer dog, Samba has so far evaded capture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Samba escaped from the zoo on 17 March, less than 24 hours after arriving.
