Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The England international, who joined from Leicester City in summer 2023, had two years remaining on his original deal.

Harvey registered a career high of 16 goals from 57 appearances in all competitions last season. He was rewarded with a return to the international stage in March and featured in the Wembley friendly against Uruguay, his first involvement with England for nearly six years.

The 28-year-old’s Magpies tally of 30 goals from 120 games sees him boast an impressive one in four ratio for the club.

Harvey’s reputation for producing key moments was underlined as he scored the latest winning goal in Premier League history earlier this year, with his 102nd-minute strike against Leeds United clinching a vital three points at St. James’ Park.

Harvey said: “It feels great to sign this new contract so early before the new season starts. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m delighted to continue that.

“When I first joined the club I quickly learned what a special place it is, but after three years here I know that even more. I love everything about it – the city, the stadium, the people – and I’m really happy extending my time here.

“I’ve had a taste of success in the last few years and enjoyed some really special moments with this team. We all want more of that and I want to be a key player that helps push the club forward.”

‘Special moments at vital times’

Head Coach, Eddie Howe, said: “Harvey’s new contract is very well deserved and a reflection of the work he’s put in and the quality he’s shown throughout his three years at Newcastle United.

“Harvey is a player who has consistently produced special moments at vital times for the team. He’s calm in front of goal, whether that’s one-on-one or from distance, and is always a threat from wide areas.

“Harvey has vast experience at the highest level but we believe there is still more to come.”

‘Record speaks for itself’

Sporting Director, Ross Wilson, commented: “Harvey’s record for the club speaks for itself. He managed to reach new heights last season on a personal level and that’s testament to the mentality and professionalism we see on a daily basis.

“We see him as a big part of our plans going forward, and it made total sense to secure his future.

Much like we’ve done with Fabian Schär and Sven Botman in recent months, we’re delighted to extend that experience into what we see as Harvey’s prime years.

“Everybody knows what Harvey is capable of on the pitch his personality off it. Harvey has full focus on the season ahead and I know he wants to make sure he continues to build on everything he has achieved so far at Newcastle.”

Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
