The first trailer<\/a> for Onslaught teased how much damage Adria Arjona\u2019s Army sniper will do in protecting her young daughter from a rogue gang of supersoldiers. The new trailer for Adam Wingard<\/a>\u2018s latest film treats us to Dan Stevens<\/a>\u2018 German mad-scientist character gleefully naming off all his creations, including Crybaby, Cockroach, and the Butcher.<\/p>\n

The latter is portrayed by UFC champion Alex Pereira; he carries a meat cleaver, though surely his fists alone could wipe out a regular army.<\/p>\n

At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Wingard\u2014known for a pair of Monsterverse Godzilla movies, but also You\u2019re Next and The Guest\u2014spoke about<\/a> Onslaught\u2018s retro influences. Most importantly, he name-checked the films of genre great John Carpenter.<\/p>\n

\u201cJohn Carpenter has always been the main influence for me,\u201d Wingard said at Onslaught\u2018s SDCC panel. \u201cThere\u2019s something his movies do to me. It\u2019s like magic. I just like the vibe \u2026 But I think with this film, out of Carpenter\u2019s canon,\u00a0Assault on Precinct 13, the original, was probably [the biggest influence].\u201d<\/p>\n

Onslaught\u2018s script was written by Wingard\u2019s frequent collaborator Simon Barrett, from a story they wrote together. The cast also features Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Drew Starkey, and Rebecca Hall. It hits theaters, including IMAX, starting September 4.<\/p>\n
